Grandezza Gives Back II

The Second Annual Grandezza Gives Back took place two weekends ago at the Club at Grandezza. The event included a Tennis Tournament and exhibition, a 5k Run/Walk, and a Golf Outing.

Regarding the tennis events,
Rich DeSousa, a Grandezza resident and one of the tennis  coordinators,  reported, “Both events went great--the weather really cooperated! We had 60 total participants but only a handful from outside the community. The good news is that the Grandezza tennis community really stepped.” According to Rich, 70 % of Grandezza's active tennis members  participated.

The Tennis winners included:
Women's 2.5
Rosie Kraft & partner
Women's 3.0
Anita LeTendre & Jane Christ

Women's 3.5
Freda Levin & Deb Graziani

Men’s 3.0
Stan Saucke & Jerry Nargentino
Men’s 3.5
Charlie Cook & Eric Cook

Men's 4.0 winners John Dolle & Jay Love not pictured.

The tennis pros who participated in the exhibition included Jared Kalpin (former Director of Tennis at Grandezza), Tyler Manning, Tyler Owens, Sergio Rebolledo, Chris Fletcher, Eddie Neese, and Richard Stempanowski. Fletcher and Manning prevailed in the exhibition, which included heavy “ball-pounding” according to witnesses.

The Run/Walk featured 65 participants with Aaron Rojas winning the race with a time of 15:44. He had some stiff competition from Adam Sommer at 15:52 and Ricky Ledesme who came in at 15:58. The top woman finisher in the race was Maria Frank. She finished in 20:27 and was 10th overall.

The Grandezza community wants to send a special “Thank You!” to Lanny Kalpin for giving up his day off to organize and run the Tennis Event. They also want to thank the sponsors: Monin who sponsored the tennis; and MedPartners and Reno Running Co. which sponsored the 5K.  And finally, thanks to all the participants who made it happen.

Tallying all donations, including the events, silent auction and raffle, the Second Annual Grandezza Gives Back raised $9,865.00 for  United Way. The game is amazing and so are those who play it avidly!  Game, set, match...T A
