Coming Soon to Fort Myers Tennis

Senior Pro League
Just a few weeks after hosting a leg of the West Coast Super Senior Grand Prix, Cape Coral Racquet Club (CCRC) is playing host again. This time, the Senior Pro League (SPL), coordinated by Armor Persons of Breckenridge, will cross the bridge and accept CCRC’s hospitality.

The lineups aren’t yet set for the event, but you can bet that most, if not all, of them will be competitive. For a little more on the SPL click here.

Free Senior Mini Tennis
As I mentioned almost in a recent blog, Senior Mini Tennis is maximizing the tennis experiences of some of the area’s senior citizens, courtesy of the Lee County Community Tennis Association (LCCTA). You or someone dear to you can try the new, fun format for seniors at a number of Lee County Parks free of charge during the month of February. See the free play date schedule and sites below. Click here if you’d like to read a recent News-Press article on Senior Mini Tennis, and/or call a site of interest at the number listed below.

So you’re probably thinking that this post is all for the AARP card carriers, right? Not exactly. There’s a lil something for the young’uns too. If you have kids or grandkids ages 4 through 17, this next segment is for you.

National Speaker at Three Oaks
Three Oaks Tennis Center and Douglas Milsap, DDS are bringing nationally recognized speaker and family coach, David Benzel, to Three Oaks Park on Sunday, February 26 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Benzel will be speaking on “How to Create a Confident Athlete.”

According to a Three Oaks Press Release, the National Alliance for Sports reports that 70 percent of the 20 million kids who register for competitive youth sports will quit playing these sports by age 13 and never play them again. Inviting Benzel to address parents is one way that Three Oaks Tennis Director Fred Hindle sees of mitigating that unfortunate reality.

According to Hindle, “parents get their children involved in sports for all the right reasons…it can build confidence, teach discipline and goal setting plus a number of other positives. Unfortunately we see all of that backfire far too often.” The complimentary event is open to the entire family, and youngsters from 4-17 who attend will have the opportunity to play carnival and tennis games with prizes and refreshments.

Benzel brings fifteen years as a corporate leadership coach for companies like Nextel, Sprint, Allstate, Balfour Beatty, and The Villages to the table, and is an eight-time National Water Ski Champion; Former coach of the U.S. Water Ski Team; Recipient of the Award of Distinction from the Water Ski Hall of Fame. And he served as a commentator on ESPN for the X Games and the Professional Water Ski Tour. Read more about Benzel here. For more info or to participate, please call or email Fred Hindle at 239-898-7770, 239-596-2527, or

Sure hope you have a chance to check out or participate in some of the above! Game, set, match...T A
