Miscellaneous League Report (Ultimate Tennis, SCAT, USTA, Bonero)

SCAT League (Standings are as of December 18, 2011. The season resumes on January 4, 2012)
Park Meadow Diane (PMD) has created some separation from the other five teams in the League, sitting five points ahead of Heritage Bay (HB) and Naples Bay (NB), the two teams that are tied for second. Not far behind are Fort Myers Racquet and Park Meadow Regina (PMR), both just one point behind the second place teams. Plantation Country Club PCC) is bringing up the rear just one point back of the third-place teams.
With more than half the season yet to be played, PMD has plenty of time to stretch its lead or to be caught. Stay tuned to see who will claim the SCAT crown for the 2011-12 Season.
Park Meadow’s own Laura DeLuca and Tatiana Reynolds both won Ultimate Tennis (UT) Championships recently. Laura won the 3.5 division and Tatiana took the Women’s 4.0 Championship.
Seeded third going into the playoffs, Tatiana had a rough start in her first match, needing to win a tiebreak to win the first set. She then cruised to straight set victories in all three of her remaining matches, winning the final 6-1, 6-1over Kara Beene of Bradenton.
Laura, too, entered the playoffs as the No.3 Seed, but she took a completely different route to her championship win. In her first match, Laura played three tough sets, winning the match 7-6 in the third, after winning the first set 6-4, and dropping the second set 3-6.
In her second match, Laura picked up right where she left off, beating the No.2 Seed in the semis, 7-6, 7-5. In the final against fourth-seed Amy Poole (who, by the way, had destroyed the No.1 Seed 6-1, 6-1) Laura battled through another tough 7-5 set before closing out the match 6-4. Congrats to two of Park Meadow’s finest! Way to represent ladies!

Another local who is also worthy of honorable mention for his Ultimate Tennis performance is Frank Fourgeau, who qualified for the playoffs by virtue of going 6-0 before losing his only match in a three-set thriller. Frank didn’t make the trip to the playoffs that he earned, but his stellar regular season (winning 13 of 15 sets played) surely earns him a pat on the back next time you see him.

Spring Leagues begin the first week in February, and Ultimate Tennis offers Singles & Doubles for men and women, as well as mixed. Click the link above for the Ultimate Tennis website, and click here for a piece I wrote on the UT some time back.
USTA Florida Adult and Senior Winter Leagues begin play January 7, 2012. Results from those leagues will be included in the Leagues Report when they become available.
Bonero begins its winter schedule on January 3, 2012. Stay posted for results and other info from Bonero in upcoming weeks.

Don't know about you, but I'm looking forward to some terrific tennis in 2012. Game, set, match....T A
