Lee County Women's Tennis League Update

I just can't keep up with all the tennis we have going in town and on the tube, so this LCWTL update is through Friday January 20th.

Rated Divisions

2.5
The Landings have the lead by 16 points over Cape Coral Yacht Club (CCYC), but the Landings has played one more game than CCYC.  Both the Legends and Gulf Harbour are within striking distance, and with so many matches yet to play, all four are in the hunt for the top spot.

3.0-Minus
Four teams appear to be vying for supremacy in this division. The ladies of Breckenridge Tiebreakers hold the lead by three points over the Landings, with Cross Creek Estates and Heritage Palms eight and nine points out of first respectively.

3.0
Although the Forest has a two-point lead in the standings over Fiddlesticks (203 – 201), Fiddlesticks has played one game fewer than the Forest. In addition, Fiddlesticks has swept five of nine opponents, four of the last five, and is 22-2 in their last 24 individual matches played. No one else is within striking distance of the lead.

3.5-Minus
Landings Gems hold the lead by 10 points over the Forest, and three other teams are within one sweep of the lead. Kelly Greens, Gulf Harbour LoveLee Ladies, and Paseo with strong second halves of the season can give Landings Gems and the Forest a run for division honors.

3.5
Pelican Preserve and Rutenberg are running away with the race in this division. Pelican Preserve leads Rutenberg by seven points, but with six of nine matches ending in sweeps, a 32-4 individual match record, one match fewer played than Rutenberg, it appears that Pelican Preserve is in the driver’s seat. Gulf Harbour is within striking distance of the top two teams should they falter.

4.0-Minus
Three teams are vying for supremacy in the division. The Dunes TonisTigers lead the way with 232 points, Park Meadow sits in second with 219 points, and Gulf Harbour is still within reach of the top spot with 209. Fort Myers Racquet Club Ace Kickers and Heritage Palms can at least reach the 200-point mark by next match, but unless something unforeseen occurs, the division winner is likely to come from the current top three.

4.0
There’s a tight race atop the 4.0 Division with five teams within one match of the lead. Landings 4Love hold the top spot, seven points ahead of second-place Landings Legends. The Dunes, HP Poachers and Park Meadow round out the top five, and all of those teams are within a sweep of the lead. With half the season still to go, it’s too close to call.

Dynamo
In this, the highest skill level of the Rated Divisions, PM GGs leads Paseo by nine points and Plantation by 20. Looking at the match scores, it’s tough to determine which of these three is likely to emerge as the cream of the crop, but it looks as though the current top-two will determine who is crowned Division Champ.

Senior Divisions
60-Plus
It appears to be another three-horse race for the honors in the most senior of the senior divisions. Fort Myers Racquet Club (FMRC) has a healthy 20-point lead over Heritage Palms, and Cape Coral Racquet Club is two points behind Heritage Palms. FMRC has swept its last four matches, so they appear to be pulling away from the competition.

Bronze
In one of the closest races in the Lee County Women’s Tennis League, Herons Glen holds a slim lead over Pelican Landing, and Heritage Palms is just nine points back of Pelican. FMRC has played one match fewer than the top three, and being only 10 points out of third, chances are they will be in the top three when matches played are equal. Two additional teams are right in the mix, both within 15 points of third place.

Silver
In one of the largest division in the LCWTL, Breckenridge holds a slight and deceptive lead over Landings Lucky Ladies. Breckenridge is ahead by 9 points, but the team has played one match fewer than “L-Cubed.” The two are significantly ahead of the rest of the pack, however, there are a few teams within hailing distance that have played two matches fewer than the leader.

Gold
After a relatively slow start, Heritage Palms Sweet Spots have picked up the pace over the past eight matches, posting four sweeps and losing just one individual match in the other four that they played. That gives them a 27-point lead over their closest competitor, Cape Coral Racquet Club. This is shaping up as a battle for second, as there are six teams within one sweep of the second spot.

Platinum
In the highest rated of the Senior Divisions, Paseo has a two-point edge on Pelican Landing, and Park Meadow ServesAces are 19 points out of first. No other team is really within shouting distance of the lead, but the season is still relatively young.

Stay tuned for the next update which should be ready within two weeks. Game, set, match...T A
