This, Friday, June 1st, is the last day to register for all three USTA Summer Leagues. Play begins the week of June 18 and runs through August 24 for the Combo Leagues, and June 23 through August 25 for the Mixed League. For more info on the Adult Combo League, contact Kevin Gaines at firstname.lastname@example.org, and for the Senior Leagues contact Jon McVety at email@example.com.
New Tennis League
There’s also a new tennis league in town: Your Own Tennis Association (YOTA) that offers Men’s and Women’s Doubles competition in 2.5, 3.0, 3.5 & 4.0 divisions. You only need to field two courts to participate in the new league, and USTA ratings are used as bench-mark with fair and open rating decisions by players and pros. Any location in South Lee or Collier counties can be home to your team.
If you are interested you will need to act fast, as the last day to submit your team roster is June 9, 2012. The cost is $15 per person on the team. If you have been left without fun, competitive tennis due to the northern exodus, this may be a great opportunity for you. Contact YOTA at firstname.lastname@example.org ASAP for more information or to join.
Belmont Championships on Sanibel
Triple Crown Saturday is coming up on the 9th, and so is the Beachview Belmont Golf & Tennis Championships at Beachview Golf and Tennis Club on Sanibel. It is an event I looked forward to playing, but I’m going to have to miss this one. Perhaps I can experience it vicariously through you!
The event is a combination golf and tennis competition with two person teams. The tennis will consist of Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles competition, and golf will be a two-person scramble. The entry fee is $50 per person and that includes tennis, golf, and lunch! The entry deadline is this coming Wednesday, June 6. If you want in, call Toni at .
Of course there’s the French Open on the tube, and I’m hoping to catch more of that than I’ve been able to over the past week. I’m betting there’s a whole lot more than the above going on around town, but that’s all I’ve got for now. If you have anything else for me just send it on over (email@example.com). Have a great tennis weekend! Game, set, match...T. A.
